The original Necromorphs strike me as more insect-like and relentless. To better pinpoint this disconnect with the remake, I decided to pull up a monster reveal video for the original and another for the remake, which where I found my pain point. All of these comments are not from a place of bitterness, but as someone who respects the horror genre and how it can be used to better understand how to convey fear and danger in fiction, so we may be able to better face it. But I think there is still notable differences between the techniques used between these games that may be worth considering as a horror-hobbiest. I will recognize that I likely have much bias towards the older graphics and the personal connection to the original as something that actually gave me nightmares. The main changes are to how the presentation of the monsters are handled and overall horror atmosphere. Though there are many graphical and story improvements in the remake, there are still certain changes I feel either detract or were lost from the original. In light of the remake for Dead Space being released, I found myself reflecting on the horror between it and the original, as likely many others also are.
